Focus Friday - Big Sister Danika
We've been having a wonderful spring so far, in case the pictures don't show that! The girls have enjoyed planting and watering flowers, playing outdoors on the swing set and play house and as you can see, they have truly become more than sisters, they are friends!
It's been awhile since we've posted just about Danika...
Danika turned 3 1/2 about a month ago and she has really "come into her own" as a big sister. She is loving and patient and such a good role model for Sienna. I'm amazed at how well Danika adjusted to having her entire world rocked less than a year ago, going from being the "only" to being big sister.
"Big Sister" is a label Danika wears proudly and defends fiercely. She often can be heard saying, "I am BIG sister!!!" We try to make big sisterhood have it's priviliges for Danika, she gets to stay up a bit later than Sienna, she is allowed to chew bubble gum now, and most of all she is the self-designated "dish washer helper", most nights after supper Danika helps rinse the dishes and load the dishwasher.
Unfortunately along with being big sister Danika has learned how to pick on her little sister. When we drive in the garage at the end of the day she will say to Sienna, "Daddy's home!" even when he is not because she likes to trick Sienna (Danika faces forward in her car seat and Sienna is still rear facing so she doesn't know that Daddy really isn't home until we get all the way into the garage). Danika also likes to trick her sister by saying "Cat says woof woof and Cow says Oink". We're working on these behaviors...patiently.
We have realized that being Big Sister also means Danika no longer wants to be "our baby", definitely hard on Mama and Daddy. She can't wait to be in the "whale room" at school (for 4 year olds and up) and every day after preschool when I pick her up she says, "Pretty soon I'll be in high school Mom and I'll ride the bus...pretty soon". It makes my heart hurt because I know than in the blink of an eye she WILL be in high school and riding the bus, oh how I'd like to tuck her away and shelter her forever.
Danika continues to learn at a mind boggling pace, the other day she told me, "Well, actually Mom, it's really like this..." our little baby is definitely 3 1/2 going on 13!
Danika, God made you very special - you have a tender heart, a gentle spirit and an iron will, a beautiful imagination, a twinkle in your eye and a quick wit. We are in awe that we were chosen to be your parents. We love you Big Sister!

Very nice post. It's fun seeing our firsts come into their own as the oldest & how their personalities develop w/that role.
Maddy does a little teasing with Zeke too, but he is learning to dish it back.
The pictures are adorable, they are such beauties. And the post about Danika is just wonderful! They are bound to be terrific with 2 terrific parents leading them! Bonnie
What a beautiful post dedicated to your beautiful "biggest" girl! Danika and Sienna clearly have such a special bond, Karen(hey, teasing comes with the territory). They are precious together. Yep. I'd say you and Dan have been well and truly blessed, dear friend! :)
Love and Big Hugs from TX,
Amy
