Safely in Beijing...and tired

WHEW!!! After nearly 24 hours in planes or in airports we have made it safely to our hotel in Beijing! It is so fun to see the same sights, hear the same sounds and yes, smell the same smells we smelled two years ago on our first journey to China.
Our trip was long but thankfully mostly uneventful. We learned two things: No matter how much more premium economy/business class tickets are - it is TOTALLY worth it...and don't let your travel agent route you to Guangzhou on your way to Beijing...adds approximately 8 additional hours to the trip.
We both slept very well on the flight over. Dan slept 11 hours uninterupted, Karen about 8.5. We've caught up on some reading, and just enjoyed talking and dreaming about Sienna.
The worst part of this journey is FAT ankles...Karen's ankles are swollen about 4 times their normal size and they HURT. (Think ala Switzerland Mom & Dad). If this is the worst that happens, we'll be OK.
Our guide met us at the airport and has now dropped us off at our hotel. Tonight we are going to the pearl market and out to dinner at our hotel.
Tomorrow we are going to the Great Wall, Forbidden City and Tianamen Square. Photos to follow!
FOR DANIKA:
We miss you so much little sweetheart. We couldn't get internet access in Guangzhou to skype with you but tomorrow we will see you! Be good for Grandma and Grandpa and we love you and miss you more then you can imagine. Being here in China just gives us wonderful memories of when we went to China to bring YOU home. We hope you are enjoying your surprises we left for you!
